I posted a dream a few weeks back about selling our house and getting a new one and then another about selling our house and moving. So it’s no surprise that God gave me another dream of a new house. I dreamed that I had run into an old friend’s mother and I was going to stay with them. But when we got to their house it had been abandoned for many years. I wasn’t supposed to stay in that house with them though, they were going to give me my own house next to theirs. It had also been abandoned for many years but she handed me the key and gave me a warning. There may be someone living in there who isn’t supposed to be there. So I took the key and walked over to the house. It was stormy and the sky was swirling around as was the wind. There was a man there who looked like Ice Cube standing in the carport of this big white house. I knew it was now my house so I wasn’t afraid to go up and live in it and when I got the door the man was very polite. He also knew it was my house and he was glad to let me take possession of it. As he walked away through the yard I put the key in the lock and started to go in.
This dream came in the middle of a long series of dreams last night about joining up with a ministry that I’ve been watching online and talking about a lot lately, the last reformation. I had for example in one I dreamed that some strange thing happened and it made me financially capable of traveling with Torben and them. Everything just fell into place to start going on the road with them. Maybe the Lord is bringing me into that. But in this dream the house is like a church or ministry. It belongs to someone else, someone I’ve known or known about for awhile, and they give me the key that I need to live out my own calling. It is a separate calling and ministry even though is owned by them and under their authority. Someone else is currently in this position but they are looking to hand it off to the next person and God is lining me up to be that next person. It seems scary, it looks scary, it’s outside of my comfort zone, it’s bigger than I need it to be, but it’s where God is about to put me.
Now let me just say that dream isn’t only for me. It is specifically for me, but that doesn’t exclude others from being in that place of moving forward into something new that the Lord has lined up to give you. I dreamed awhile back that while many believers work for the phone company I work for the satellite company. Meaning God has me in a position to spread his revelation across a wide area. He is setting up a whole group of believers to step into new roles. It will be a giant leap for many people but don’t be afraid. Just step right into the destiny that He gives you the keys for and He will make it all work!
Ok back into the Psalms. I’m excited that Psalms 91 is in our reading today, it’s a personal favorite. This is actually a verse that the devil quotes to Jesus to try and trip Him up in wilderness! So it clearly has a wrong interpretation and Jesus was able to see through the lie to the law! It was an amazing exchange when Jesus quote Deuteronomy back to the devil to show the error of his explanation of this verse.
Let’s back up and look at it through the lens of Jesus and see if we can interpret some of this by truth. “He who dwells in the shelter of the most high will abide in the shadow of the almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Let’s put that in the mouth of Jesus for a second and see if it sounds right. Remember Jesus had just been baptized with water and the Holy Spirit before He went into the wilderness. He was walking by faith the way we are also expected to walk. He was tempted and tried the way we are expected to be. He fasted and prayed and was being physically sustained by doing the will of God and not by food or drink. It was a place of full trust, saying to the Father, you are my refuge and my fortress!
“For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” Jesus was walking in the Spirit and because of that he would be protected and delivered. He was about to walk through earthly trouble. No food, no water, the devil himself coming to cause Him to stumble! “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
“Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place, ‘the most high, who is my refuge’ no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.” Here we have the heart condition of walking in faith and here the devil attacks Jesus himself, thinking that this was a trick that could deceive even Him. Satan spoke pride to Jesus, pride in His own faith, His own position as the Son of God, His perfection was used against Him. “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” The enemy knew the scripture was about Jesus and Jesus did too. So the enemy suggested that Jesus use that knowledge for selfish and prideful purposes. Show off who you are was the cry of the devil. How many religious people refuse to believe in something that can’t be shown off?
Jesus rebuked him of course speaking the law which also prophesied about Him. Do not test the Lord your God, was the simple reply of Jesus. “You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.” He trampled the lion and the serpent that very day by replying with righteousness instead of pride. “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.” My God! Jesus walked with Him in a way that didn’t make sense to people. He didn’t put on a show of doing God’s will and in Him we see the power of humbly walking with our God.
May the Lord give us eyes to see His ways. I pray that we would walk in faith, not knowing how God will make it work, just knowing that He will make it good. Today’s reading went from Psalms 90-108 and I hope you can read along with us. May we walk the way He walked. May we be blessed with righteousness and understanding. May the Lord stand next to you in times that look difficult in the flesh and show you that the trouble beside your body is not near your place of refuge and may God bless all y’all.
